According to the Real Pit Bull, "Much has to do with the individual, it's genes, upbringing, and training . . . all of the human aggressive dogs are victims of one or more of the following: poor breeding, bad training, or irresponsible upbringing." If properly raised, a pit bull will make a dedicated and loving pet for many years.

Pit bulls have locking jaws
Dr. I. Lehr Brisbin of the University of Georgia says that
the few studies which have been conducted of the structure of the skulls, mandibles and teeth of pit bulls show that, in proportion to their size, their jaw structure and thus its inferred functional morphology, is no different than that of any breed of dog(Myths About the American Pit Bull Terrier)
It is impossible for a pit bull's jaw to lock any more than that of a golden retriever. However, pit bulls do have much strength in their large jaw which enables them to hang from branches or to be bull baiters (one reason they were initially bred).

Some interesting pit bull web sites are:
the Real Pit Bull
American Dog Breeders Association (ADBA)
Bad Rap: Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pitbulls
